Shaw Island
The smallest of the ferry-served four, and the most private. No restaurants, no hotels, very few transactions. The island most people pass through on the ferry, and the one some buyers spend years trying to get onto.
Shaw is the island the ferry visits but doesn’t change. It has stayed smaller and quieter than its neighbors by a combination of circumstance and intention. Most buyers who land here were not looking for Shaw specifically. They were looking for what Shaw offers, and eventually understood that Shaw was the place.

What sets Shaw apart.
True quiet.
Shaw has no restaurants, no hotels, and no commercial services to speak of. The ferry stops here, and the island receives it, and then things go quiet again. For people who mean it when they say they want to get away, Shaw is the answer.
A small, self-sufficient community.
The residents of Shaw have long operated with a degree of self-reliance that sets the tone of the island. People know each other, look after each other, and tend to prefer it that way. Newcomers are welcome when they come with that same orientation.
Land and forest.
Much of the island is forested and undeveloped. What comes to market is typically acreage rather than finished homes, though small waterfront parcels and modest residences do surface from time to time.
What Buyers Should Know
A few things worth understanding.
The most private of the four.
Shaw is the ferry-served island with the fewest people, the fewest amenities, and the strongest sense of remove. That is not a limitation for the right buyer, it is the entire point.
Property comes to market rarely.
Shaw has very few transactions in any given year. Owners tend to hold for a long time. When something does come available, it often moves quickly and quietly. Staying in contact with someone who has their ear to the ground matters here more than on any other island.
You will need to bring most things with you.
There are no grocery stores, no pharmacies, no fuel docks. The ferry brings what the island needs, and residents plan ahead. Buyers who find this appealing rather than daunting are the ones who tend to stay.
A different relationship to the ferry.
Shaw is on the same WSF route as the other islands, but the service is less frequent and the terminal is small. Getting on and off the island requires more planning than San Juan or Orcas, and that shapes daily life in ways worth understanding before you commit.
